Student Success Workshops

At BHSU-RC, we are committed to helping you achieve your educational goals. Throughout the year, we will be hosting various Student Success Workshops on topics that will help you succeed in your goal of graduating with your degree or certificate. Plan to attend these workshops:

Resume Review Workshops:

Do you need help getting started or need an extra pair of eyes looking over your cover letter and resume?  These are open sessions where you can just stop in with out an appointment and have professionals assist you with your job application materials.

Coffee Chats:

The Center several Coffee Chats with different individuals or groups for students to learn more about BHSU-RC and the services offered to them.  Below is a schedule of the different topics that will be covered during the Coffee Chats, check back often as new sessions are being added:

  • September 10th: Meet the Director, Gene Bilodeau
  • October 15th:  Dr. Tom Jackson, BHSU President
The Coffee Chats will be held at 3 pm in the Atrium.  Stop in to visit with these folks and enjoy a cup of coffee courtesy of the Center.

Academic and Personal Success Workshops:

The University Center will hold various workshops throughout the year to help students with a variety of different topics designed to assist with their growth both academically and personally.  The schedule and description of the workshops are listed below.

Thinking About Grad School:  Wednesday, November 19th, 3 pm, Room :
Is grad school something you are thinking about but aren't sure how to go about searching for a program, applying, taking entrance exams or any number of other things?  This session will feature current graduate faculty, admissions staff and Center staff who will be there to answer questions about the application process, searching for a program and what to expect out of the classes and professors once you have been accepted.  This session will be held in room 125 beginning at 3:00 pm on November 13th.
Scholarship Searches, Essays/Applications and Financial Aid:  Tuesday, December 2nd, 3 pm, Room :
Do you know how to find free money for college?  How about writing that essay for a scholarship application?  Are you still confused on how to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)?  This workshop will help address all of these topics and will feature financial aid and writing experts to provide the information.  The session will be held in room 125 beginning at 3 pm on November 20th.
Own Your Digital Profile:  Wednesday, March 25th, 3 pm:
Have you Googled yourself lately? Are you surprised at what comes up? This session is aimed at helping you take control of your digital profile, from Facebook to LinkedIn to that blog you forgot about from 5 years ago.  Make sure that what is on the web correctly portrays who you are to the world.  This session will be held at 3 pm, with the location TBA.

CAAP (Proficiency) Test Review Session:

Instructors from the four areas of the test, Writing Skills, Reading, Science, and Math, will be on hand to help students prepare for the upcoming CAAP test, which will be held on Friday, October 31st and November 1st and Friday, March 20th and 21st.  If you are required to take the CAAP test or retake portions of it, you should consider attending this review session
